MARQUETTE, MICH.— Former Raider
Trevor Cosgrove scored twice in the first period to help Northern Michigan to a 4-2 win over Colgate on Friday evening.
The Wildcats struck first when Cosgrove snuck a shot past
Carter Gylander to give his team the lead. Less than five minutes later, Cosgrove scored again to make it 2-0 with 10 minutes left in the first.
Despite the tough start, Gylander came up with some big stops for Colgate as he finished the game with 34 saves.
The Raiders pulled one back at the end of the period when
Arnaud Vachon tapped in a loose puck in front of the net with assists from
Josh McKechney and
Alex Young.
In the second period the Wildcats would quickly regain control, as Joseph Nardi and Alex Frye scored less than two minutes apart from each other to put NMU up 4-1 with 11 minutes left in the middle frame.
The Raiders answered back once again when
Ben Raymond found the puck in front of the goal and finished it off to cut the lead to two at the 7:31 mark.
In the third, the Raiders' best opportunity came when the Wildcats had a five-minute major penalty called against them for kneeing, but they were unable to capitalize.
The shot total ended 38-28 in favor of Northern Michigan.

"Hockey is a game of momentum. At times I really liked things we were doing and we need to find consistency in them. Playing on the big sheet is a bit of a different game. We will learn from it and come back ready tomorrow."
