Colgate's Comeback Falls Short

Harvard Scores Twice in Third Period as Raiders Drop 5-3 Decision

HAMILTON, N.Y.— The Colgate men's hockey team fought back from a two-goal deficit but was unable to pull ahead, falling 5-3 to Harvard on Friday night.

A high-scoring first period saw Harvard with a 3-2 lead at the end of it. It started with Alex Laferriere scoring four and a half minutes in to put the Crimson up 1-0. Less than a minute later, John Farinacci doubled the Crimson's lead.

Josh McKechney answered back two minutes later when he found a loose puck in front of the net and finished it off to cut the lead to one.

Harvard would push the lead back to two when Jack Donato scored with just under eight minutes remaining.

Colgate continued to fight back as with 2:12 remaining in the first and the Raiders on a power play, Matt Verboon scored to make it 3-2.

Four minutes into the second period Griffin Lunn tied the game up when he finished one from in close.

The Raiders killed off three Harvard penalties in the second period, preventing them from pulling back ahead. Harvard had a total of four power-play chances in the game while Colgate had five.

In the third, Farinacci tallied another goal five minutes into the period and Marshall Rifai then added one of his own two minutes later as Harvard went up 5-3.

The Crimson finished the game with a 39-31 advantage in shots.

Andrew Farrier stopped 34 of Harvard shots, including 13 saves in the second period.

The Raiders had control in the faceoff circle going 39-65.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Don Vaughan

"That was a tough loss. I liked how we battled back after getting behind. We had some great looks in the third to take the lead but they didn't go. We are in the middle of a difficult stretch but I still believe in our group. We will keep grinding and I know things will turn around. In this league, anything can happen. We hit reset and get ready to battle Dartmouth tomorrow."
