Raiders top Lafayette for fourth straight win

Colgate takes a 3-0 win at home

HAMILTON – A 3-0 sweep of Lafayette marked the Raiders' fourth straight win as they closed the opening weekend of Patriot League play at 2-0.

The first set was back-and-forth as neither team was able to pull ahead by more than two points. Colgate faced match point twice but fought back each time to equalize.

After Lafayette took a one-point lead, a big kill by Libby Overmyer tied the game up at 27-27. An unsuccessful challenge by the Leopards followed by a ball handling error ended the set with a 29-27 Colgate win.

The battle continued into the second set. With Lafayette ahead 20-18 the Raiders rallied to tie it up at 21-21. Facing match point at 24-22, a crucial kill by Alli Lowe and a block by Harper Snyder tied it up again. Colgate then scored twice in a row for a 26-24 win.

The Raiders dominated in the first half of set three, jumping out to a 20-10 lead. The Leopards attempted to come back pulling within five at 24-19, but a kill by Overrmyer closed it out.

Overmyer led Colgate with 17 kills while hitting .483 on the night. Julia Kurowski had 35 assists and also tied Cami Carfino and Caroline Altergott for the team lead in digs with eight.

Harper Snyder also tallied two blocks for the Raiders.

"We found a way to win against a balanced Lafayette team. We will continue to get everyone's best this season. I'm proud of our team's fight and response all weekend. It's not easy winning league matches, especially in straight sets. Our leadership and chemistry are very good. It'll be another tough weekend on the road next week"
