Box Score ANNAPOLIS – Navy used a strong attack game to take a 3-0 decision from Colgate in a Patriot League match at Wesley Brown Arena. The Middies took the contest by scores of 26-24, 25-21 and 25-19.
The first set was a back and forth affair with 10 ties and 8 lead changes. Trailing 23-24, Colgate took a time out and scored the first point out of the break to knot the match at 24 and force a Navy timeout. A block by Navy's Cami Herman and a attack by Maggie Bodman closed the set.
In the second set Colgate twice rallied from four-point deficits and after trailing from the early minutes of the match tied the set at 20 on a block by
Libby Overmyer and
Sophie Thompson. Despite rallying from 17-20, the Raiders were unable to capitalize on the momentum as Navy completed two successful attacks and took a 23-20 lead on a block of an Overmyer attack. An Overmyer kill then proved to be the Raiders' last point of the set.
Navy took an early 12-6 lead in set three, but Colgate rallied to tie the match at 15. Ties again at 16, 17 and 19 caused a Navy timeout. A Colgate service error handed the Middies a 20-19 lead and Bodman served out the match on a 5-0 run that included four kills for Jamie Llewellyn.
Overmyer led Colgate with a .333 hitting percentage.
Julia Kurowski led the team in assists with 26 and tied for the team lead in digs with
Cami Carfino and Ali Lowe with seven.
Navy had a team hitting percentage of .250 for the match to just .186 for the Raiders. The Middies had 46 successful attacks to only 35 for Colgate. Navy also had more assists (41/32), digs (40/32) and blocks (8/5).
The loss was the first for Colgate following a four-match win streak and drops the Raiders to 2-1 in the Patriot League.

"Give credit to Navy, they made us uncomfortable all night with their serve and defense. It's early in the season and we are still figuring it out."
