HAMILTON – Colgate Volleyball picked up where it left off last weekend and extended its winning streak to three matches with a 3-0 sweep of Lehigh on Friday night at Cotterell Court.
The Raiders during the hot streak have won nine of their last 10 sets.
Alli Lowe made a difference Friday night, finishing with a game-high 20 kills.
Sophie Thompson tallied four blocks, while
Julia Kurowski paced the Raiders in assists (30) and
Caroline Altergott led the way in digs (12).
Cami Carfino added three aces in a strong night at the service line.
The opening set started with back-and-forth action. There were six early lead changes until three kills from Lowe sparked a quick 6-0 Raider scoring run that stretched the lead to 14-8. Colgate never trailed again, but could never quite pull away either.
Colgate's defense stood tall through the set, preventing the Mountain Hawks from scoring back-to-back points until a solo block by Emily Stewart trimmed the margin to 20-16. Coming out of a Raiders' timeout, Lowe took over with three more kills down the stretch, including the set point on an assist by Kurowski to take the opening frame 25-19.
Set 2 could not have been closer. With nine ties throughout the set, neither team led by more than a point until an ace from Carfino and a pair of kills from
Harper Snyder and Lowe pushed Colgate's advantage to 13-10. Lehigh turned the tides and led by one at 18-17, but the Raiders countered with a 4-0 run and Lowe capped it off with a strong kill to give Colgate a 25-21 win in Set 2.
The Mountain Hawks built their largest lead of the night at 9-6 early in the third set. Lehigh held steady and carried that to a 16-15 lead. The margin remained at one point 20-19, but the Raiders scored three of the next four points and Lowe fittingly ended things with her 20th kill of the night to send Colgate home with the 25-22 victory and 3-0 sweep.

Head Coach Ryan Baker
"This was a hard fought match. Lehigh was scrappy and they tested our defensive range all night. We had a really strong offensive night with
Alli Lowe and
Libby Overmyer carrying a big part of the load tonight. Our middles had a lot of presence and forced Lehigh to make some tough swings. We need to recover quickly as we will face a rested Lafayette team who has some big arms."
