HAMILTON – A late goal lifted Rider past Colgate, 2-1, Sunday at Tyler's Field.
While the game was mostly dominated by Colgate (outshooting Rider 16-10) the outcome was ultimately decided by two timely Broncs goals.
Rider's Abby Hartwell found the back of the net off a pass from Carly Brosious to give the Broncs an early advantage just three minutes into the game. Down early in the first, the Raiders responded in the second quarter, outshooting its opponent 5-3.
The third quarter was dominated by Colgate as it swarmed the Broncs' net on its way to outshooting Rider 3-0 in the third frame. While the opportunities presented themselves, the Raiders failed to connect on any shots.
After six shots on net,
Ella Murphy finally snapped Colgate's dry spell and found her opportunity when she sent one to the back of the net early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at one goal apiece.
While the fourth quarter came with several more scoring opportunities for the Raiders, Rider's Julia Divorra found the Broncs golden opportunity with 1:20 left in the game when she sent one screaming into the Colgate net.
Ella Murphy totaled six shots on the day, while
Taylor Casamassa followed with five.
Anna Unger totalled three saves in Colgate's home opener.

Head Coach April Cornell
"It was a great game for our first home game. I'm very happy with how the team competed today, we controlled the game well and had a lot of attacking opportunities. We will be focusing on better corner execution this week. Rider is a very relentless team that plays until the end and we can learn a lot from that experience today."
