Casamassa Collects Preseason Honors

Previewing the Season, Casamassa Named to Preseason All-Patriot League Team

HAMILTON – After a 10-point season in 2019, senior Taylor Casamassa of the Colgate field hockey program has been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

TAYLOR CASAMASSA – PRESEASON ALL-LEAGUE TEAM
For the second consecutive season, senior Taylor Casamassa has been pegged for the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. Behind the success of her junior season, Casamassa was named to First Team All-Patriot League honors and garnered All-Mideast Region Second Team honors by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

A forward, Casamassa topped the Colgate squad with 10 points by three goals and four assists. The Hummelstown, Pa., native's 36 shots was a team-high on the year, while she landed 14 on goal.

A standout last season, Casamassa earned her first career game-winning goal with an overtime tally in the 4-3 win over Towson (Sept. 8, 2019) in addition to putting up a career-high four-point day in the 4-1 win over Saint Louis (Aug. 31, 2019) with one goal and two assists.

Casamassa's 2019 All-Patriot League selection was Colgate's first since goalkeeper Maria Krull in the 2017 campaign.

RECAPPING 2019
It's been awhile since the squad competed, actually dating back to Nov. 3, 2019. It was a season in which the Raiders earned a 3-14 overall record, including a 1-0 victory at Bryan to round out the year. It was a game in which Kali Williams' first career goal stood as the game-winner, while Anna Unger recorded seven saves for her second career shutout.

In another thrilling decision, Casamassa score the overtime game-winner on a penalty stroke for a 4-3 win against Towson (Sept. 8, 2019). Colgate also earned a 4-1 win over Saint Louis (Aug. 31, 2019) by holding a 27-1 advantage in total shots earlier in the season.

LOOKING AHEAD
The six-game regular season slate features two home games against Holy Cross (March 21) and Bucknell (April 4). After the adapted schedule, the Patriot League Tournament takes place with the Semifinals on April 22 before the Championship on April 24.

On the roster, a six-player freshman class consisting of three forwards, two midfielders, and one defender, joins the 17 returners to the program from the Fall 2019 campaign. After losing just three players to the Class of 2020, the team is now led by nine seniors in Emma Goldberg, Katie Anderson, Campbell Matheis, Nora Mulroy, Meghan Minturn, Blair Boyles, Meredith Rappaport, Taylor Casamassa, and Josie Cook.
