Colgate Can’t Hold Off UAlbany

Golembiewski’s 10 points lead the way for the Raiders

Box Score HAMILTON, N.Y. - It was UAlbany's strong second half that did in Colgate on Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court.

The Great Danes (3-3) defeated the Raiders (2-6), 60-39, after pulling away in the second half. UAlbany shot 55.6 percent (10-18) from the floor in the final 20 minutes, including four three pointers.

Taylor Golembiewski led Colgate with 10 points. It marked her fourth double-figure scoring game of her freshman season. She added four rebounds and a team-high three assists in the defeat.

UAlbany was led by Kayla Cooper's 17 points. Cooper also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

UAlbany used a 11-0 run midway through the second quarter to give them a double-digit lead, 28-18, the largest lead by either team in the first half. Colgate chipped away at that lead and scored the final five points of the quarter and trailed 28-23 at the half. That five point deficit was unfortunately the closest the Raiders would get the rest of the game.

The Raiders shot 31 percent (8-26) from the floor in the opening half and finished the game 14-51 for a 27.5 percent clip. The Great Danes made 11 of 30 field goal attempts (33 percent) in the first half and finished the game at 43.8 percent (21-48).

UAlbany outscored Colgate 18-7 in the third quarter. The Great Danes went 5-8 shooting from the floor, including three 3-point field goals in that 10 minute span.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"We played against a really good team in Albany. They have a lot of weapons and are well-coached. I reminded our team post-game that our program absolutes are communication, competitiveness, and energy and enthusiasm. If we are unable to bring those at a high level, we will unfortunately have similar results. I've seen my team display these at a high level so I know they're capable of it. We will regroup with our focus again being on our absolutes, while cleaning up the things that will make us better as a team."
