Raiders Topped by Syracuse

Colgate falls 3-0 on the road.

SYRACUSE – The Colgate men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Syracuse on Tuesday evening.

The Orange controlled possession for much of the first half but that did not stop the Raiders from creating chances of their own.

In the 17th minute, Max Edelstien had a look at goal but he was unable to get a good angle as his shot hit the side netting.

Aidan Davock had a breakaway in the 31st minute but he fired it just off target.

The Raiders closest chance in the half came in the 41st minute when Jacob Blackwin played a ball right to the head of Edward Bass but he put it just wide.

Just one minute later, Syracuse took a 1-0 lead when Francesco Pagano put one in the top right of the goal.

Syracuse came out firing in the second half but Andrew Cooke made some big stops including a diving save in the 48th minute to prevent an early second half goal.

Cooke had six saves on the night for the Raiders.

In the 58th minute the Orange doubled its lead off a goal from Manel Busquets.

Colgate had back-to-back corner kicks in the 63rd minute but were unable to get a shot off on either attempt.

The Raiders would have a chance off a free kick in the 76th minute. Dominic Galietta connected on a header that was saved by Syracuse' goalkeeper. A few minutes later Blackwin had a good look at one with a rip from outside the box that landed just to the right of the goal.

Syracuse topped off the scoring in the 89th minute with a goal from Julius Rauch.

Head Coach Erik Ronning

"Syracuse presented a tough challenge, one that we responded well to for a vast majority of the game. As a team we let ourselves down in a couple of critical moments, however, we had some individuals who showed some strong performances which was exciting. We are getting closer to putting together a complete team effort for 90 minutes and we will be ready for Bucknell."
