Colgate Falls to Lehigh on Last-Minute Goal

Giovino Scores Team-Leading Sixth Goal of the Season in 2-1 Defeat

Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh scored in the final minute of regulation and held on to defeat the Colgate women's soccer team 2-1 on Wednesday night at Ulrich Sports Complex.

Colgate pressured with better possessions for most of the night, outshooting Lehigh 23-16. Ally Giovino scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1 early in the second half, but a long through ball in the final minute of regulation made the difference.

Attempting to neutralize possession, Lehigh's Corinne Lyght was on the receiving end of the long outlet pass and scored on a breakaway with 55 seconds left in regulation to seal the 2-1 result.

It was the second goal of the night for Lyght, who gave Lehigh an early 1-0 lead in the first half. Unfortunate luck saw the Raiders hit the post three times during the opening 45 minutes. Emily Amano beamed a long-range shot off the crossbar before Jenna Borovinsky and Lauren Rougas rang the pipe twice in the 38th minute.

Hannah Pinkus came away with Colgate's best chance after Ruby Diodati served a corner kick into the box. Pinkus' ensuing header beat the Mountain Hawks keeper but a defender deflected the shot wide.

Despite Colgate having better chances, Lehigh took advantage of its opportunity and found the back of the net just before halftime. Lyght battled traffic in front before striking a low shot past the goal line to give the home team a 1-0 advantage at halftime.

The Raiders finally cashed in midway through the second half when a turnover led to an opportunity for Giovino. Colgate's leading scorer made a move on a defender before pushing a low shot inside the right post to tie the match in the 68th minute.

Colgate could not capitalize on better possessions down the stretch and Lehigh's defensive effort led to the Mountain Hawks' game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation.
