LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colgate extended its winning streak to five and the Raiders have now won nine of their last 10 after sweeping Bucknell 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Alli Lowe,
Athena Leota and
Sophie Thompson led the way in kills (8) while Thompson posted six blocks and
Julia Kurowski racked up 30 assists as Colgate posted a .315 hitting percentage. Defensively, Lowe and
Cami Carfino each registered nine digs in the victory.
Set 1: Colgate 25, Bucknell 22
The first set finished with the narrowest margin. Colgate trailed 6-3 but Lowe and
Libby Overmyer posted back-to-back kills to give the Raiders the lead for good 9-8. The lead stretched to as many as six (20-14) before Bucknell closed the gap to 23-21, but a pair of kills from Kurowski sealed the opening set triumph for the Raiders.
Set 2: Colgate 25, Bucknell 19
The Raiders held a slim two-point lead in Set 2 when kills by Thompson and Leota sparked a modest 4-1 scoring run that turned a 10-8 advantage into a 14-9 lead. The Bison cut the margin back to two (18-16) but back-to-back attack errors allowed Colgate to pull ahead 21-16. The Raiders carried that momentum to close out the set on a 7-2 run for a 25-19 victory.
Set 3: Colgate 25, Bucknell 14
Colgate, which never trailed in the final two sets, saved the best for last. The Raiders raced out to an 11-3 lead thanks to a 6-0 run sparked by kills from Lowe and
Harper Snyder. Bucknell used a late 5-0 spurt to get within 19-11, but that was as close as the Bison would get. Colgate finished off the wire-to-wire set victory and match sweep with a kill by Snyder.
