CANTON, N.Y. – For the fifth time in the season's 11 games, the Colgate men's hockey program faced extra hockey to decide a winner.
Eventful from start to finish,
Levi Glasman recorded his first career goal just 54 seconds after the drop of the puck before
Griffin Lunn secured a 4-3 victory with the overtime game-winner.
Now unbeaten in their last 24 overtime matchups, the Raiders return to Class of 1965 Arena to complete the three-game series against St. Lawrence on Saturday and Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Making an impact early, the Raiders scored two goals within a 2:52 span for an early 2-0 lead. Midway through some 4-on-4 play, St. Lawrence capitalized on the open space on the ice to narrow Colgate's lead to 2-1.
The scoring was far from over though, as
Trevor Cosgrove cleaned up a
Josh McKechney chance for a 3-1 advantage in the final minutes. Still not done, St. Lawrence tallied another with just 33.9 on the clock to make it a one-goal game.
The second period would be the most evenly-slated session of the night, although the only goal would go to the opponent as a Saint beat the blocker side on a breakaway midway through regulation.
Only one man advantage would come to the Raiders through the game, being in the second period. It was a successful kill that re-energized the Colgate offense. It pressured back, but the St. Lawrence tally would stand as the only goal for the remainder of regulation.
Even though the Raiders faced a penalty kill through the fast-paced third, St. Lawrence got down the sheet to produce just one shot on goal all 20:00. It was a shot that came with just 5:24 remaining in regulation as the Raiders dominant offense continued to fight for the go-ahead goal.
It didn't come in regulation, as the Raiders headed to their fifth overtime game in the season's 11 matchups. Within the first minute, McKechney poked the puck under the pads, but it was covered before crossing the line.
Far from the only scoring chance in extra hockey, the efforts finally paid off when McKechney connected with
Griffin Lunn and his top-shelf tally earned the overtime game-winner for a 4-3 victory on the road.

"Obviously we wanted the three points and we had our chances especially in the third period. There are six points up for grabs this weekend and I know we can expect the same kind of battle.
"We will reset and get ready for Saturday and Sunday. It is just so great to be playing. Our players and coaches know it and we are cherishing every minute of it."
