HAMILTON – The Colgate field hockey program has announced the addition of six student-athletes for the 2020 campaign. The six-player Class of 2024 will begin competition in the fall for the Raiders.
The incoming group consists of two forwards, three midfielders, and one defender, and hails from three different states and two Canadian provinces. The freshman class will join 20 returners to the program, led by nine seniors, five juniors, and six sophomores for the 2020 season.
Colgate is coming off of a 3-14 season in 2019 in which it earned a strong 4-1 win over Saint Louis, a 4-3 overtime win over Towson, and a 1-0 win at Bryant to round out the year. The Raiders also faced two nationally ranked opponents in then-No. 20 Albany and then-No. 19 Syracuse.
The freshman class joins a program with lots of momentum for the 2019 season, as the squad returns four of its top five scorers from last year, as well as all three of its goalkeepers.
Rachel Alderfer – Methacton / Norristown, Pa. / Defense
A multi-sport athlete, Alderfer lettered in field hockey and lacrosse at Methacton. Alderfer scored five goals her senior year for a total of 15 goals in 76 varsity games played, while also competing with the Mayhem Field Hockey Club. Alderfer served as team captain her senior year and won the conference championship in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, before being named All-State Second Team (2019-20), All-State Honorable Mention (2018-19), and First Team All-Division (2018-19, 2019-20). Adding to her accolades, Alderfer was also named All-State Academic (2018-19), a PhilaFH Senior All-Star (2019-20), and to the 2019 NFHCA High School National Academic Squad. While at Methacton, Alderfer garnered the Unsung Hero Award, Defensive MVP title, and the Barb Clipsham Award, while also participating with the Best Buddies and Student Ambassadors programs.
Chase Cmaylo – Madison / Madison, N.J. / Forward
A multi-sport athlete, Cmaylo lettered in field hockey and winter and spring track while at Madison High School. Cmaylo scored 15 goals with eight assists her senior season for a total of 43 goals and 18 assists in her career. In addition to serving as team captain her senior season, Cmaylo also competed with the New Heights Field Hockey Club. Cmaylo became the 2016 and 2017 Section 2 Champion with her Madison team, ultimately becoming the 2017 State Runner-Up. For her efforts, Cmaylo was pegged as a three-time First Team All-County, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-North Jersey selection in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She also garnered the Most Valuable Player award in 2019-20 and earned a slot on the NJAC All-Academic Team and NJ.com All-Group. Off the field, Cmaylo was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in Peer Group Connections, on the yearbook staff, and with DECA. Ties to Hamilton, Cmaylo's sister Talia Cmaylo '08 rowed at Colgate.
Ella Corbett – The Bromfield School / Harvard, Mass. / Midfield
A multi-sport athlete, Corbett lettered in field hockey and track at The Bromfield School. After scoring nine goals and four assists for 13 points in her senior season, Corbett posted a total of 49 goals and 25 assists for 74 points in her career. In addition to serving as team captain her senior year, Corbett also competed with the Northeast Elite field hockey club. A four-time Mid-Watch All-Star, Corbett was named Central Massachusetts MVP and selected to the Central Massachusetts Top Seniors Team. After being a bronze finisher at the 2016 Futures, Corbett became a three-time NFC participant and NIT silver medalist. Over her four seasons, Corbett held records at The Bromfield School for most goals scored in a season (23), most career goals (49), most career points (74), and most career assists (25). Off the field, Corbett was a member of the National Spanish Honors Society, participated in the Model United Nations as an officer, the Global Competency Program, and was a Seal of Biliteracy member.
Aaliyah Linfoot – Exeter / Reading, Pa. / Forward
Linfoot scored nine goals her senior year for a total of 27 in her career at Exeter Senior High School, while also playing club field hockey with W.C. Eagles. Linfoot made it to the BCIAA field hockey semifinals, and was named to the 2017 Berks County Field Hockey All-Division Second Team, before garnering First Team honors in 2018 and 2019. Off the field, Linfoot was a member of the National Honor Society and also participated in the Yearbook Club and Spanish Club.
Ella Murphy – Appleby College / Vancouver, British Columbia / Midfield
A multi-sport athlete, Murphy played field hockey, ice hockey, track & field, badminton, ultimate frisbee, and softball at Appleby College. Murphy tallied 33 goals and 35 assists in her senior season for a total of 98 goals and 76 assists in her high school career, while also playing club field hockey with the GOA Reds, and club ice hockey with the Oakville Hornets Midget AA. Murphy was a four-time captain and team MVP of her field hockey program, before competing with Team Canada's U18 Junior National Team in 2020 and Canada's U17 Junior Women's National Team in 2019. Named a Next Generation Athlete with Team Canada, Murphy also played for Ontario West provincial team in 2019, where she was a semifinalist while tying for top goal scorer with six in the tournament. A National Bronze Medalist in 2018 and Silver Medalist in 2017, Murphy claimed the Gold Medal in the 2020 Ontario Winter Games where she was the tournament leader in goals and assists. After winning a Gold Medal at the 2016 Ontario Summer Games, Murphy was named a four-time D8 All-Star and her school's Athlete of the Year in 2016-17. Outside of athletics, Murphy was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in student council, Relay for Life committee, and in the Unified Special Olympics.
Bronwen Rees-Wiedemann – Crofton House School / Kitchener, Ontario / Midfield
A multi-sport athlete, Rees-Wiedemann lettered in field hockey, basketball, soccer, and tennis at Crofton House School, while also competing with the Canadian National Next Gen Team, Team BC, and the Rob Short Academy. Rees-Wiedemann was captain of the Crofton field hockey and basketball programs and became a two-time Provincial Champion in 2017 for field hockey and tennis. In addition to being named to the Junior Canadian National Team in 2019, Rees-Wiedemann became the U18 National Champion with Team BC in 2018 after becoming the 2017 U15 National Champions. She also competed in the BC prospects camp and BC Summer Games for basketball and was a National Figure Skating Gold Level. A three-time Athlete of the Year at Crofton House School, Rees-Wiedemann was on the Honour Roll with Distinction and also participated in Model UN.
