HANOVER, N.H. – Colgate closed the door on Part I of the 2019 season in a 38-3 defeat to Dartmouth here Saturday night.
Part II and Patriot League play begin next Saturday at home against Lehigh.
The Raiders went 0-5 against a formidable schedule and a formidable injury list. Dartmouth should challenge for the Ivy League title again this season after going 9-1 a year ago. And Saturday night they were facing Colgate's No. 3 quarterback in
Noah Rothman.
Rothman earned his first start and finished 13-of-30 passing for 130 yards, with an additional 56 rushing yards on 16 attempts.
Alex Mathews also started for the first time this season and led the Raiders with 74 yards on 19 carries.
Another first-time starter,
Milton Braasch II, posted six tackles. That was one fewer than team leader
Nicholas Ioanilli.
The Raiders enter their Patriot League season without a point scored in the first quarter and without a lead in any game. They are 0-5 for the first time since the 1995 team went 0-11. The new season starts next Saturday.
Bottom Line
• Dartmouth 38, Colgate 3
From the Source
•
Colgate head coach Dan Hunt: (Opening comment at press conference) "I just told the players that it's on me. I'm missing something that we're not coming out ready to play games. We're making a lot of mistakes that you can't make against a good team that takes advantage of them. That's certainly what we did tonight."
