HAMILTON – The Colgate volleyball program opens the 2018 season on Friday at the Cal Tournament in Berkeley, Calif. The Raiders open the three-match tournament in competition against Rutgers at 12:30 p.m. pacific time / 3:30 p.m. eastern.

The Raiders open the Cal Tournament and the 2018 season by facing Rutgers for the first time since 2015, and hold a 6-4 all-time record versus the Scarlet Knights. Also historical matchups, Colgate takes on Chicago State for the first time since posting 3-1 victory in 2006, and faces California for the first time since 1996.
The Raiders were recently recognized in the 2018 Patriot League Volleyball Preseason Poll with 82 points and predicted to finish fifth overall. After notching 407 kills in her debut season in 2017, sophomore
Alli Lowe garnered 2018 Preseason All-Patriot League accolades as well. A notable returner, Lowe was named both Patriot League and Colgate Athletics Rookie of the Year for her efforts in the 2017 campaign.
The Raiders are coming off of back-to-back 18-11 seasons, where the 2017 squad posted a 9-7 record in Patriot League play. To open the season, the Raiders earned three straight wins at the Syracuse Tournament, ultimately leading to a five-match win streak to kick off the 2017 campaign. The year was then capped off with an appearance in the reformed National Invitational Volleyball Championship.

Jaelah Hutchison, three of which ranked in the top-five in kills on the Colgate roster last season. The 2018 Raiders also features the addition of four freshmen to the roster in libero

Hailey Horn-Bostel and setter/outside hitter
Julia Kurowski.
The Cal Tournament marks the first of four preseason tournaments for the program, prior to starting Patriot League play against Holy Cross on Sept. 21. Colgate's home opener is Friday, Aug. 31 as the team hosts Northwestern, Princeton, and Stephen F. Austin in the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament.
