HAMILTON – Colgate field hockey head coach
April Cornell has announced the Class of 2022, a group of eight student-athletes that will begin competition in the fall.
"I am very pleased to announce this years Class of 2022," Cornell said. "This class adds both depth of ability and leadership that will make an immediate impact in the program. Each player brings an exciting new dimension to the program and demonstrates the work ethic and commitment that is the foundation of our team."
The incoming group consists of players from five different states in addition to the Netherlands. Colgate's newcomers are well balanced positionally with two forwards, three midfielders, two defenders and a goalkeeper.
"This class is a well-rounded group of young women whose talents go far beyond the playing field and embody what it means to be a student-athlete here at Colgate," Cornell added. "I am so thrilled to welcome this group into our program, it's a great time to be a Raider."
Including the 11 rising sophomores, Colgate's roster will feature 20 underclassman as well as five juniors.
Colgate is coming off its best season since 2014 with its 4-13 record in Cornell's first season at the helm of the program. The Raiders return nearly 50 percent of its scoring, led by
Iona MacKillop (Glasgow, Scotland) who had three goals and two assists as a sophomore.
The Raiders are graduating five players from the Class of 2018, including Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and three-year starter
Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts. Krull was the first Raider since 1998 to compete in the NFHCA Senior Game and was named to the NFHCA All-Mideast Second Team. She led the Patriot League with a .786 save percentage, 9.71 saves per game and 165 total saves finished fourth in program history with 545 saves.
