BURLINGTON, Vt. – Although Colgate field hockey's
Olivia Krogermeier capitalized first in non-conference play against Vermont, the Catamounts responded with a pair of goals for a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate was first to get on the board as
Olivia Krogermeier produced a goal on a penalty corner opportunity in the 16th minute of the game. For her third goal of the season, Krogermeier was able to pick up the rebound from the initial penalty corner chance, and lift the Raiders to a 1-0 lead.
Shortly thereafter, Vermont picked up their first tally to tie the game at 21:23 with a long shot from the top of the circle. The pair of non-conference foes were held at a 1-1 stalemate through halftime and most of the second half, before Vermont claimed a 2-1 lead with a penalty corner goal of their own with just 3:25 remaining in regulation. Although the Raiders saw a scoring chance with just under two minutes to go, they were unable to force and overtime against the Catamounts before the horn sound for the 2-1 final.

COACH CORNELL'S TAKE
"I am very happy with how the team competed today. Our defense and goalie made some key plays to allow us to strongly outlet the ball. Our midfield also moved the ball and used the space well in a way to generate the attack. We will continue to use this experience as a building block so that we will win those high-pressure moments with confidence and composure."
