Anderson’s First Career Goal Earns Win at Fairfield

Raiders Earn 2-1 Win with Goals by Potter and Anderson to Snap Losing Streak

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – As the clock ticked down at Fairfield, the Colgate field hockey program looked to snap a 1-1 stalemate in non-conference play. The Raiders were able to post a 2-1 win when Katie Anderson notched her first career goal with just 5:35 remaining in regulation, ultimately being the game-winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After lots of time spent in the offensive zone, freshman Nikki Potter was able to convert on the Raiders' third penalty corner opportunity of the game to get them on the board with a 1-0 lead. At the time, the Raiders held a 5-3 edge in total shots, as well as a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Late in the first half, Fairfield made a push that was able to generate momentum into the second. When it carried over, Fairfield was able to tie the game on a penalty shot opportunity with just 9:15 remaining in regulation. It was then in the final minutes that Colgate's goalkeeper Emma Goldberg made some critical saves, and the Raiders persisted for the victory when Anderson capitalized on a deflection off of Taylor Casamassa's pass from the top of the circle. When it had looked as if extra time was going to be needed, Colgate withstood as Fairfield attempted to battle back, but the Raiders came out victorious with the 2-1 final.
