Raiders Earn Third-Straight Win with 81-78 Victory at Army

Five Raiders Finish in Double-Figures in Strong Team Effort

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Five Raiders scored in double figures to lead the Colgate men's basketball team to a gutsy 81-78 come-from-behind win at Army to wrap up the first half of Patriot League play Wednesday night.

Colgate trailed the Black Knights for a majority of the game until the Raiders used a three-minute long 11-0 run midway through the second half to turn a six-point deficit into a five-point lead and never looked back. The win allows Colgate to take over sole possession of third place in the Patriot League standings as the Raiders are now 6-3 in league games and 4-1 in league road contests.

Senior Jordan Robertson led five Raiders in double-figures with a season-high 14 points. He added a career-best eight rebounds in his strong performance. First-year Jordan Burns narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and a career-high nine assists. Junior Dana Batt (13), senior Jordan Swopshire (11) and sophomore Will Rayman (11) rounded out the double-digit Raider scoring contingent.

Army started the game 5-for-5 from the floor and 4-for-4 from three-point range to jump out to a quick 14-2 lead and force an early Raider timeout at the 16:52 mark. A Swopshire trey snapped the Army streak with 15:47 on the clock and ignited a 13-8 Raider run over the next 4:34 to pull the Raiders back in the game at 19-15.

Colgate eventually clawed back within three at 26-23 following another Swopshire three-pointer with eight minutes left on the first-half clock. The scoring was even for the rest of the term as a trey from senior Sean O'Brien accounted for the final points of the stanza with 2:56 left and the Black Knights took a 37-34 lead into the locker room.

The Raiders were able to pull within two at 48-46 just over six minutes into the second half. Army's lead stretched to six at 57-51 at the 8:19 mark, but Colgate responded with 11-straight points to take its first lead since the opening minute. An offensive put-back from junior Malcolm Regisford opened the run that saw five points from Robertson as the Raiders took a 62-57 lead with 5:13 left to play.

Army's Tommy Funk stopped the Colgate streak with a layup, but Colgate rallied with 14 of the next 23 points to take its largest lead at 76-68 as the clock ticked down to 37 seconds.

The Black Knights got within three on several occasions in the final 30 seconds. Colgate made five of seven free throw attempts in the final 22 seconds before a last-second Army three-point attempt missed and Colgate held on to win 81-78.
