Altmann, Gass ’16 Headed to the Winter Olympics

Two Raiders to Represent Switzerland in Pyeongchang

Livia Altmann and Nicole Gass (2012-16) are representing Switzerland in the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, next month. The two are a part of the 23-player roster that Swiss the national team announced in a release earlier Monday.

Altmann and Gass helped guide Switzerland to a fourth place finish in the 2018 Nations Cup earlier this month.

"Officially being named on the roster is a huge honor for me," Altmann said. "I'm super excited and thankful to being able to represent my home country at the Olympics."

Altmann, who has appeared in 56 games as a Raider, has netted four goals and tallied seven assists throughout her career. This season, she has played in 24 games, scoring two goals and adding four assists.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Liv to not only be a part of the Olympic Games for her country, but to serve as a captain of the Swiss Olympic team," Colgate Head Coach Greg Fargo said. "We are extremely proud of her for reaching this goal."

Altmann was a member of the Swiss Olympic Team in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi that took home the bronze medal. It was the best ever finish for Switzerland.

"After the last Olympic games, Livia arrived to Colgate and wanted to take her game to the next level," Fargo said. "She has done that over the past two years and she is eager to help bring home another medal as she did in Sochi in 2014."

Gass, who graduated with a degree in molecular biology in 2016, currently plays for the Zürcher Schlittschuh Club Lions, a professional team located in Zürich, Switzerland. The defender appeared in 140 games as a Raider, scoring 46 points (8g, 36a).

The team travels to Seoul, South Korea, on Feb. 1, to complete a five-day preparation camp in neighboring Goyang. As part of its preparation, Switzerland is playing two exhibition games against Canada and Finland.

The Swiss face South Korea (Feb. 10), Japan (Feb. 12), and Sweden (Feb. 14) in the preliminary round. The quarterfinals are set to begin on Feb. 17.
