HAMILTON –
Iona MacKillop (Glasgow, Scotland) scored the game-winning goal 8:55 into the second half as the Colgate field hockey team dominated the Siena Saints in a 1-0 win Wednesday evening at Tyler's Field.

MacKillop's game-winning goal is her first game-winner of the season and second goal overall as the Raiders bounced back after a loss at Saint Louis on Saturday.

Cady Kopsky (St. Louis, Missouri) dribbled the ball up the field before dishing to Michaela Corvi (Newburyport, Massachusetts) on the left side of the goal from the top of the circle. Corvi drew Siena goalkeeper Mary Crumlish out of the cage before feeding MacKillop on the doorstep for the easy tap home.

The Raiders controlled the pace of play for most of the 70 minutes of play, yielding just one shot on goal in a 19-1 advantage. Colgate's attack was overpowering for Siena, as the Saints did not record their only shot on goal until nearly 60 minutes into the game.

With the ball sticking in the offensive end, Kopsky racked up a career-high seven shots on goal thanks to Colgate's 13 penalty corners.

Goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) needed to make just one save on the way to her second career shutout in Wednesday night's win.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach April Cornell
"Today was a total team effort. We wanted to come out and play a full 70 minutes, and we wanted to play our tempo to set the pace of the game. We really did a good job of doing that, anytime that we had any kind of defensive pressure on us, our backfield was able to settle, regain our composure and come back on attack."

"I was really happy by everyone's performance, just being able to recognize the space and move the ball with a pass. It was great."

"Our strikers in general are doing a fantastic job of gelling with one another and that's something we've really been working on. Michaela and Iona have a tremendous amount of speed, I think they really capitalized on it today and it was really nice to see the finish, knowing that it doesn't matter who's scoring it just making sure it's in the goal."

"It was a big week for us, a lot of games in a short amount of time but I think the importance for us was really making sure every time we stepped on the field we were improving. We're focusing on the small, tangible things that we can control and improve on, and we know our game is going to get better and better if we do that."

"We just take it one game at a time, this was an excellent win to get that under our belt and move on to the next one. We are a confident team now that knows we will compete in every single game this year so we're just prepared for the next game."

Iona MacKillop
On scoring the game-winning goal
"It felt amazing, it feels so good when it all comes together, working off one another and to finally get in feels good."

On Preparing for this Season
"I started working on my personal goals, working on my fitness and execution, and seeing the play with my other teammates."

On the win heading into the weekend
"It felt amazing, it was so what we needed. As a team, I think we're going to go in all guns blazing the rest of the weekend and hopefully get the next two wins."
