HAMILTON – Senior captain
Caroline Schaefer (Avon, Connecticut) scored her first goal of the season and second of her career as the Colgate field hockey team fell to the nationally ranked No. 22 Boston University Terriers, 5-1, at Tyler's Field on Friday evening.
Maggie Lake (Wilmette, Illinois) recorded her first career point with an assist on Schaefer's goal while Schaefer picked up her second career goal.
Boston University jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game as Ally Hammel blasted home a goal off a penalty corner. After the Raiders battled for much of the remainder of the half, the Terriers added a second goal with 1:21 left in as Ailsa Connolly dribbled around a Colgate defender before tucking her shot just inside the right post to double their lead, 2-0.
The Terriers scored a pair of goals in the opening 13 minutes of the first half to take a 4-0 lead as Kiley Gallagher scored off a rebound and Maika Akroyd put home a strike off a penalty corner.
Schaefer and the Raiders bounced back quickly from Akroyd's goal as the Raiders scored 1:43 later to get on the board.
Maggie Lake (Wilmette, Illinois) inserted the penalty corner to the left of the goal and found Schaefer on the wing. Schaefer stepped into a shot that deflected off a Boston University defender's stick and into the goal for her first of the season.
Boston University added one more goal of a penalty corner as Hammel scored her second of the game and season.

Head Coach
April Cornell
"We came out a little bit flat and let BU set the tempo of the game. We need to come out with more confidence right from the start. At halftime, we made some changes and came out a much more aggressive and confident team that led to our goal.
"
Caroline Schaefer has been working so hard all season. She's been such an amazing leader and it's great to see her score and contribute on the attack. She works so hard on organizing, communicating and leading our team that scoring gives her another area that she has really stepped up for us."
"This second half really gave us a lot of confidence. We know if we come out and compete like we did in the second half that we will be able to really control the game against Rider. They are going to be a similarly aggressive and fast team, and they're very relentless, so we have to play more of an aggressive style of play and can't sit back."
"Right now, it's about us playing together. We don't really focus on the other team, it's just focusing on us doing the simple fundamentals and taking care of the ball."
