Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette in Overtime, 3-2

Raiders Storm Back from 2-0 Deficit with Strong Second Half, Krull Makes 16 Saves in Goal

EASTON, Pa. – The Colgate field hockey team scored two goals in an impressive second half effort but ultimately fell to the Lafayette Leopards, 3-2, in overtime Saturday afternoon at Rappolt Field.

Lafayette scored the game-winning goal 1:15 into overtime on Anna Steps' first career goal.

Goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) once again had a phenomenal game with 16 saves to give her 446 in her career and move her into sixth place all-time in program history. Krull was particularly dominant in the second half, stopping all 12 shots she faced to give the Raiders a chance to tie the game.

Throughout the game, goals came in bunches for both teams as Lafayette scored a pair of goals within two minutes of each other late in the first half to make it 2-0. Sam Di Maio collected a rebound after one of Krull's first half saves before putting home the loose ball for a 1-0 lead before Rosie Shanks scored on a penalty corner to double the Leopards goal total.

The Raiders bounced back with an incredible second half effort, scoring a pair of goals to tie the game in the first 12 minutes of the second half.

Michaela Corvi (Newburyport, Massachusetts) got things started offensively for the Raiders on her second goal of the season. She received a long pass down the middle of the field before cutting in towards goal and shooting the ball just past Lafayette goalkeeper Sarah Park's right.

Nearly six minutes later, Molly Klare (Wilmette, Illinois) picked up her first goal of the season and fifth of her career to tie the game. After a Colgate penalty corner, the Raiders were awarded a penalty stroke that Klare took and buried past Park.

Neither team could break the deadlocked as Krull continued to turn away shots before the Leopards managed to score the game-winning goal in overtime.
