HAMILTON – Induction for the Colgate Athletics Hall of Honor takes place Saturday during Homecoming Weekend.
In advance of those ceremonies, Colgate Athletics compiled a brief question-and-answer session with each of the honorees. Today's honoree is
Rebecca Galves '94 from volleyball.

Galves earned a spot on the Patriot League's Volleyball All-Decade Team for 1990-99. She was the league's Rookie of the Year in 1990 and followed that up with three straight All-Patriot League First Team selections, highlighted by her 1992 pick as conference Player of the Year.
The Raiders with Galves on board won the Patriot League tournament in 1990 and the regular season title in 1991. Galves still ranks among the Colgate career top 10 in digs (third with 1,316) and kills (seventh with 1,061).
Galves in 2015 was named to the Patriot League's Silver Anniversary Team.
Here is the Q&A with Rebecca Galves:
What is your current occupation?
"Assistant Director of the Center for Smart Grid Technologies at New Mexico State University; President of the New Mexico Network for Women in Science and Engineering; Mountain States Lead and 5-time Director of the Expanding Your Horizons Conferences; Affiliate Lead and 3-time Director of the National Center for Women in Information Technology-Aspirations in Computing."
Why did you choose to attend Colgate?
"Colgate represented the best of everything I wanted to experience. Nationally ranked academics, highest possible level of college athletics, and a wonderful family connection with New York. (I should have been a third-generation Cornell grad, but I made the first huge rebellion in my life and chose to attend 'Gate!!}."
Which person proved to be most instrumental to your success as a Colgate student-athlete?
"Dr. Ellen Kraly was critical in my success at Colgate! She has an incredible way of connecting with students, infusing confidence, assisting students to reach their potential, and creating opportunities for research that integrate real-world experiences.
"
Dr. Merrill Miller helped me heal (physically and emotionally!) and never let me quit! Her support, kindness, patience and understanding were key factors in my success. She believed in me, helped me recover and worked hard to remind me of the reasons for believing in myself!"
What was your favorite Colgate moment?
"Just ONE!?! Not possible!! #1A – Probably beating Syracuse. That was huge! #1B – Winning the Patriot League Championship. #1C – Being named PL Player of the Year. #1D – Reaching 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs (first in Colgate program history to do so) #1E – Working with the Food Pantry in Hamilton, providing meals for folks in need. #1F – Surviving and graduating from Colgate!!!!!!!! My fav story is that I did it! And I am an outstanding lifelong Colgate representative."
What would you characterize as your biggest accomplishment since graduating from Colgate?
"Again, just one!!?? #1 – Connecting hundreds of young people (especially young women!) in New Mexico to computing and STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)! Creating amazing opportunities for hundreds and hundreds of New Mexico youth to experience STEM and computing in fun and creative ways - hopefully leading them to pursue degrees and careers in STEM fields. #2 – Becoming a parent to the most amazing young woman I have ever had the pleasure to know. #3 – Building a supportive environment for college students to pursue challenging experiences in college (both on and off the playing field) and beyond!"
