Raiders Defeat Engineers on Autism Awareness Night

Labbe leads Colgate with multi-point night during the 3-0 win.

HAMILTON -  The Colgate women's ice hockey team notched three unanswered goals to earn a shutout over Rensselaer Friday night to cap a successful night at their seventh annual Autism Awareness Night.

Both teams had several power play opportunities in the first period with a few great looks, but neither was able to find the back of the net to end the first period in a scoreless draw despite a 16-8 advantage in shots for Colgate.

The Raiders came out blazing and took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the second frame. Shae Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) stole the puck from the defense, skated in from the right side and crossed the puck to the opposite side of the net. Megan Sullivan (Toronto, Ontario) was waiting and one-timed the pass into the back of the goal for her eighth of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Labbe tallied a goal of her own as she cleaned up a blocked shot in front of the goal. Olivia Zafuto (Niagara Falls, New York) took the initial shot from above the left faceoff circle and Labbe one-timed the rebound past Rensselaer goaltender Lovisa Selander. Shelby Perry (Elginburg, Ontario) picked up the secondary assist on Labbe's goal.

Annika Zalewski (New Hartford, New York) made the score 3-0 with just over three minutes remaining in regulation. Ellie DeCaprio (Wellesley, Massachusetts) passed the puck from behind the net and Zalewski took a hard shot that sailed into the upper left hand corner of the goal. Livia Altmann (Arosa, Switzerland) was credited with the secondary assist.

Julia Vandyk (Cambridge, Ontario) recorded 21 saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season to tie Kimberly Sass and Ashlynne Rando for the most shutouts in a single-season in program history.
