Men's Ice Hockey Tallies Last Minute 2-1 Win vs. Brown

Panetta Scores Game-Winner with 46.6 Seconds Left for First Career Game-Winning Goal

HAMILTON – Jacob Panetta (Belleville, Ontario) scored the game-winning goal with 46.6 seconds left in the third period to give the Colgate men's ice hockey team a 2-1 victory over the Brown Bears Saturday night at Class of 1965 Arena.

Rory McGuire (Bracebridge, Ontario) started the rush from the defensive zone where he hit Mike Panowyk (Whitby, Ontario) with a pass at the left wall on the red line. Panowyk skated the puck into the offensive zone where he tried to pass the puck to Jared Cockrell (Byfield, Massachusetts) but it was tipped up by a Brown defenseman. Cockrell chased the puck down and his shot go off Brown goaltender Gavin Nieto's pads right to Panetta who slid the puck passed Nieto on the ice.

The goal stands as Panetta's first career game-winning goal and the second goal of his career after scoring against Quinnipiac at home in November.

Goaltender Colton Point (North Bay, Ontario) tallied his second win of the season, making 20 saves for the Raiders. After a two-save first period, Point stood on his head to making 18 over the final 40 minutes, including 12 in the second period.

Both teams skated to a scoreless draw through the first two periods before the offenses really got going.

Colgate took a 1-0 lead 4:49 into the third period on Evan Peterson's (Lakeville, Minnesota) sixth goal of the season. John Snodgrass (Eagan, Minnesota) won a faceoff in the offensive zone and Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) chased down the puck. McMann eventually controlled the puck and skated to the right side of the goal where he found McMann for the one-timer in the slot.

The lead didn't last long as Brown retaliated to tie the game just 29 seconds later. Sam Lafferty received a feed from Max Willman below the end line before tapping the puck over Point for his ninth goal of the season.

Colgate and Brown exchanged power plays for much of the next 10 minutes in the game before Panetta scored his game-winner with 46.6 seconds left in regulation to hand the Raiders the 2-1 win.
