HAMILTON – The Colgate men's ice hockey team scored three goals in the third period on their way to a 4-2 victory over the Yale Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at Class of 1965 Arena.
Jake Kulevich (Marblehead, Massachusetts) and
Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) each tallied three points in the victory, the first three-point nights by a Raider in the 2016-17 season.
With Sunday's win, Colgate also earned a weekend sweep of Brown and Yale for their first weekend sweep since the final weekend at Starr Rink in the 2015-16 season.
Tim Harrison (Duxbury, Massachusetts) propelled the Raiders out to a 2-1 lead just 40 seconds into the third period on his team-leading ninth goal of the season. Kulevich wheeled the puck around from behind the goal and had a shot saved by Sam Tucker. The rebound kicked right out to
Derek Freeman (Newburyport, Massachusetts) and Tucker also made a pad save on his shot. A third rebound found Harrison, who buried the puck in the upper left corner.
Midway through the third, the Bulldogs even the score as Ted Hart's initial shot was saved by
Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) but the rebound shot in the air and Hart backhanded the puck out of mid-air to tie the game.
Just over two minutes later,
John Snodgrass (Eagan, Minnesota) picked up his second goal of the season as he streaked down the slot and received a pass from McMann. The puck bounced off Snodgrass' skate but stood after a review with no kicking motion for the game-winning goal.
Kulevich added an insurance goal with 5:58 left in the third period to make it 4-2. McMann skated the puck up the right boards before touching it to Kulevich who took the puck through the right faceoff circle and slotted the puck just past Tucker.
Yale initially jumped out to a 1-0 as Frankie DiChiara scored his 10
th goal of the season, receiving a great feed from Evan Smith. DiChiara finished the game with a game-high seven shots on goal.
Jared Cockrell (Byfield, Massachusetts) tied the game midway through the second period with his fifth tally of the season. Kulevich worked the puck to McMann who fired a perfect shot on goal that was redirected home by Cockrell to tie the game 1-1.
The Raiders picked up back-to-back wins for the second time this season as they head into their final road trip of the season.
