Second Half Leads Binghamton Past Colgate

Rayman Tallies Double-Double with 18 Points, 11 Rebounds

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Colgate men's basketball held an eight-point second half lead, but Binghamton quieted the Raider offense and closed the game on a 35-17 run en route to a 76-65 win Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders shot a blistering 65.4 percent (17-for-26) from the field in the first half, but suffered to find their rhythm in the second term as Colgate was just 22.6 percent (7-for-31) from the floor.

Sophomore Will Rayman led Colgate with his second double-double of the season with team-best marks of 18 points and 11 rebounds. First-year Jordan Burns followed with 16 points, while senior Jordan Swopshire added 11.

The Bearcats got out to an early 7-2 lead at the first media timeout. The Raiders rallied with a Dana Batt layup and back-to-back three-pointers from Swopshire and Rayman to tie the score at 10-10 with 13:05 on the clock.

Colgate converted four of its next five shots with the help from six points from Jordan Robertson as the Raiders strung together a 10-4 streak and pulled ahead 20-16 with 7:47 left in the term.  The Bearcats were back within one after Willie Rodriguez' third three-pointer of the contest, but Burns went off for 11-straight Raider points before dishing an assist to fellow first-year Jack Ferguson for a basket that stretched the Colgate lead to 33-21 with 4:08 on the clock.

The Bearcats tallied 13 of the half's final 20 points, but Colgate still carried a 40-34 lead into the locker room.

The teams traded baskets in the opening eight minutes of the second half as the Raiders held onto an eight-point lead at 51-43 with under 12 minutes to play. Back-to-back dunks from Thomas Bruce sparked an 11-5 Bearcat streak that took 5:45 off the clock and allowed Binghamton to cut the Colgate lead to two at 56-54 with under six minutes to play.

After a pair of Colgate free throws, Binghamton scored 13 straight to take the lead for the first time since the opening 10 minutes as the Bearcats pulled in front 67-58 with under two minutes to play.  Three-pointers from Rayman and Swopshire pulled Colgate back within six at 71-65, but Binghamton made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the 76-65 win.
