HAMILTON – The Colgate women's ice hockey team has moved up to their highest ranking in program history at No. 4 in the USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll, as announced on Monday, Nov. 6.
After being ranked fifth in the nation for three straight weeks for the first time, the Raiders moved up a spot and also received 101 points in the poll for the program's most points received in the poll. Colgate is also just 21 points back of Clarkson for the No. 3 spot in the country.
In addition to the Raiders No. 4 ranking in the poll, Colgate women's ice hockey sits at No. 2 in the Pairwise Rankings attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA National Collegiate Women's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI).
The Raiders are coming off their fourth weekend sweep of the season, taking down the Princeton Tigers and Quinnipiac Bobcats. With the win over Princeton, it was the first for Colgate since the 2013-14 season before any current players were on the team.
Goaltender
Julia Vandyk (Cambridge, Ontario) recorded her 35
th win to tie Rebecca Lahar's '05 program record for wins in a career as Vandyk won both games on the weekend. Vandyk posted a 0.50 GAA and .979 save percentage to lead ECAC Hockey. Her shutout of Princeton was the seventh of her career.
First-year
Malia Schneider (Millarville, Alberta) extended her point streak to nine games with a goal on Friday and an assist Saturday while tying
Jessie Eldridge (Barrie, Ontario) for the team-lead in goals with seven.
Shae Labbe (Calgary, Alberta) tallied a goal and two assists on the weekend to lead the team with three points while
Shelby Perry (Elginburg, Ontario),
Lauren Wildfang (Waterdown, Ontario) and Schneider all had a pair of points.
The Raiders hit the road for their second road trip as they travel to the New Hampshire Wildcats for a weekend series in Durham, New Hampshire. Friday's puck drop is set for 2 p.m. while Saturday the two teams will face off at 7 p.m.
