Snodgrass Scores First Career Goal in Tie at Princeton

Goaltender Finn Tallies 35 Saves as Colgate Records Point League Play

PRINCETON, N.J. – John Snodgrass (Eagan, Minnesota) scored his first career goal Saturday night at Hobey Baker Rink as the Colgate men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2-overtime tie with the Princeton Tigers.

Snodgrass had recorded 10 assists already this season before picking up his first career goal with a perfect re-direction for the Raiders' goal of the game. Snodgrass is now tied with Bobby McMann (Wainwright, Alberta) and Jared Cockrell (Byfield, Massachusetts) for the most points among freshman on the team.

Goaltender Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) kept the Raiders in a position to pick up at least one league point all night long with fantastic play between the pipes, finishing with 35 saves on 37 shots. Finn made at least 10 saves in every period, including 13 in the second.

Snodgrass gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead 5:49 into the game on his first career tally. With the Raiders on the power play after a Joe Grabowski penalty, Brett Corkey (Calgary, Alberta) played the puck from the left point to Cockrell on the right wing. Cockrell fired a shot towards the opposite post that was redirected by Snodgrass on the doorstep.

Playing in his home state in front of many family and friends, Willie Brooks (Locust, New Jersey) netted his second goal of the season that gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead with 6:54 left in the first period.

Jake Kulevich (Marblehead, Massachusetts) collected a clear attempt by the Tigers in his own defensive zone and played the puck up to Brooks in the neutral zone. Brooks skated towards goal and made a hesitation move to create room before wristing the puck top shelf over Princeton goaltender Colton Phinney's left shoulder.

Princeton began to claw its way back with a five-on-three power-play goal midway through the second period, cutting the Colgate lead to 2-1. Jackson Cressey capitalized after great passing from Jeremy Germain and Ryan Kuffner opened him up on the back door to tap the puck past Finn with 12:31 to go in the second period.

Ryan Berlin tied the game for the Tigers with 13:29 left to play in the third period on his first goal of the season. Ryan Siiro gathered the puck to the left of Finn and played the puck into the slot where Berlin buried the shot.

McMann, who had a game-high 10 shots, was denied by Phinney just before time expired in overtime to end the game with a 2-2 tie.
