Senior Goaltender Becomes Third Goaltender in Program History with 3,000 Career Saves

HAMILTON – Colgate senior goaltender Charlie Finn (North Vancouver, British Columbia) became the third goaltender in program history to record 3,000 saves Friday night as the Raiders fell to the nationally ranked No. 16 St. Lawrence Saints, 3-0, at Class of 1965 Arena.

Finn joins Jeff Cooper '85 (3,023) and Mark Dekanich '08 (3,071) in the 3,000 save club after picking up 37 saves against the Saints. Coming into the game, Finn needed just 26 saves to reach the 3,000-save mark.

The Raiders and Saints played nearly a scoreless first period but Ben Finkelstein gave St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead with less than six seconds remaining in the first period. Finn tallied seven saves in the period before Finkelstein broke the scoreless tie.

Finn stood on his head in the second period for the Raiders, stopping all 16 shots that came his way but the Raiders could not get a shot past St. Lawrence goaltender Kyle Hayton.

Just before the midway point of the third period, Finn stopped a Mike Graham shot from down low for his 3,000th career save before finishing the period with 14 saves on 16 shots.

St. Lawrence scored a pair of goals in a span of 2:14 to extend their lead to 3-0. Alex Gilmour redirected an Eric Sweetman shot from the point to give the Saints a power-play goal with 9:18 left in the third to make it 2-0. Jacob Pritchard received a home run pass from Graham on a breakaway where he roofed the puck past Finn to take a 3-0 lead.

Finn finished the game with six straight saves to give him 37 on the night, his third most in a single game this season.
