Krull Tallies Nine Saves at Cornell

Raider Field Hockey Falls 5-0 to the Big Red in Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – Goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) made nine saves Saturday afternoon as the Colgate field hockey team fell to the Cornell Big Red, 5-0, at Dodson Field.
 
Krull's nine saves are the second most she has recorded in a game this season, giving her 32 saves through the first four games. She has tallied at least nine saves in 13 of her 19 career games.
 
Cornell picked up the win in their season-opener here in 2016 after getting two goals a piece from Elizabeth Horak and Kate Fitzpatrick.
 
The Big Red took a 1-0 lead 8:29 into the game when Fitzpatrick buried a rebound off a save from Krull.
 
Cornell extended its lead to 3-0 with a pair of goals less than five minutes a part late in the first half. Horak scored her first goal of the game off a pass across the face of the net from Katie Carlson with 13:18 left in the half. Fitzpatrick added her second goal of the half as she redirected a pass from Krysten Mayers with 8:50 left in the half.
 
Cornell added two more goals late in the second half as she dodged pass a sliding Krull to tuck home the goal before Horak added her second goal of the game with seven seconds left on a shot from the top right of the arc.

WON-LOST RECORDS
The Big Red improve to 1-0 with their first win of the season while the Raiders fall to 1-3 with their third straight loss.
 
KEY RAIDER INFO
- Maria Krull recorded nine saves for her 13th career game with at least that many saves.
-Emily Brash recorded the lone shot on goal, her third game this season with at least one shot. She is second on the team with six shots and three shots on goal.

"We had trouble executing offensively below the 25. When that happens, it puts a lot of pressure on the defense. Despite the loss, there were some great individual performances from Cady Kopsky, Susan Morefield and Molly Klare."
