HAMILTON – Emily Brash (Riverside, Connecticut) scored the game-winning goal on Colgate's first shot of the overtime period with 11:36 remaining Friday night at Tyler's Field to give the Colgate Raiders a 1-0 win over the Bryant Bulldogs.
Â
In a thrilling game down to the wire, Colgate (1-0) picked up its first victory since Oct. 26, 2014, a 5-2 win over Siena. Colgate won its season opener that year, also over Bryant (0-1).
Â
Brash's game-winning tally was good for the seventh goal of her career and her second career game-winning goal.
Â
Junior midfielder
Cady Kopsky (St. Louis, Missouri) picked up the assist on Brash's game-winner for the Raiders. Kopsky controlled the ball as she dribbled up the left side of the field. Coming close to the arch, she fired a pass to Brash in the center who was all alone. Brash took her time with Bryant goaltender Marissa Elizardo attempting to cut off the angle and fired the ball off the backboard of the cage.
Â
Goalkeeper
Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) had a stellar game in goal for the Raiders as she made seven saves in her first career shutout. Krull made a huge save late in the first half as she sprinted off her goal line to cut of the angle of a Bulldog shot, stopping it immediately off the stick. Midway through the second half, Krull made her biggest save of the game as she stick-saved a shot on a Victoria Danby breakaway for Bryant.
Â
Colgate managed to force overtime despite a Bryant penalty corner with time expiring in the second half. The Bulldogs set up the strike perfectly, but Krull was able to dive to her right and make one of her seven saves.

Colgate 1, Bryant 0

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Cathy Foto
"Jena and I couldn't be prouder of the kids. It was a great team effort. We really pushed the kids all during preseason and everyday we threw something more at them mentally more so than physically. I think they rose up to the challenge, it's been a long time since we had a win here at Tyler's Field so to do it in dramatic fashion was really exciting."
Â
"We were just trying to stay composed for the 1:20 we were down a player so we had to give them a little plan, they followed the plan; a little more poise would have been good but they held on to the ball. As soon as we got Cady in they went right on attack, it went to Brash and Brash just teed it up and boom, backboard. It was awesome."
Â
Emily Brash
"It feels amazing. It was completely a team effort. Everyone out there was hungry for a win."
"[Getting mobbed after the goal] was the greatest feeling in the world. I can't wait to be out there again on Sunday so we can do it all over again."
Â
Maria Krull
"It's been a while for us since we won. We've worked really hard the last 16 days to get this win and we're ready for more."
"Honestly, it was like we won a championship. That's what it felt like. Everything we worked for over the past year finally came together and we got one in the win column."
"I enter the game saying, 'I do not want a ball to go in this net today and I committed that to my teammates and I finally got my first shutout. Happy with that one."
