HAMILTON – The Colgate offense found tough sledding Sunday and dropped a 12-4 decision to No. 14/16 Loyola on a cold and snowy afternoon.
The Raiders were limited to just one goal in each of the four periods, while Loyola scored five times in the third period to break open a close game. The Greyhounds in the third quarter outshot Colgate 17-1 and turned a 5-2 halftime lead into a 10-3 advantage heading to the fourth.
Colgate scored on its only shot attempt of the third quarter when
Tyler Rigo found the net for his fourth goal in the last two games. Rigo is up to fifth on the team with seven goals.
Other Raider goals came off the sticks of
Sam Cleveland,
Cam Williams and
Joe Delaney. The lone Colgate assist went to
Duncan Hoskinson on the Williams man-up goal early in the second quarter that narrowed Loyola's lead to 3-2.
The teams committed five turnovers apiece in the first quarter, when conditions were the worst. The Raiders forced 15 Loyola miscues and committed only 12.
Anthony Abbadessa picked up a career-high five ground balls in the slippery conditions, while
John Baker caused a pair of turnovers. Baker is now tied for second on the team in that category with six.
