HAMILTON
– Loyola tallied the final five goals of the game to break a 6-6 tie and defeat Colgate, 11-5, in Patriot League women's lacrosse action Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Playing in wet and windy conditions, the Greyhounds used their late surge to pull away from the Raiders, remain atop the Patriot League standings and record their sixth victory in seven contests.

Tied at 6-all with less than 20 minutes remaining in the second half, Lindsay Gamer started the decisive spurt with her second goal of the contest at the 18:41 mark to put the Greyhounds in front, 7-6.

Margaret Filippelli and Hannah Powers scored just 40 seconds apart less than five minutes later to expand the Loyola cushion to three before insurance markers from Maddy Blakeman and Frankie Kamely in the final two minutes determined the five-goal margin of victory.

Earlier in the contest, the Greyhounds used a 3-1 spurt to break a 2-2 tie and take a 5-3 lead with under four minutes remaining in the first half. Kallan Murray cut the Colgate deficit in half with her second goal of the frame with exactly one minute remaining to make it a 5-4 contest at the break.

Powers restored Loyola's two-goal cushion just 89 seconds into the second half before back-to-back strikes from Isabel Kreitler tied the game at 6-6 and set up the Greyhounds' game-changing run.

"Offensively we were not protecting our sticks. Maddy Lesher is a phenomenal defender. She had some great caused turnovers on us and I think that really was the turning point. When we're turning it over, it goes back down on the defense and they were able to eventually put in the back of our net."
