Late Surge Lifts Raiders Past Bearcats

Colgate Scores Twice Late to Defeat Binghamton; Young Becomes School’s Career Wins Leader with Triumph

BINGHAMTON, N.Y.Taylor Fischer scored with 9:06 remaining to break an 11-11 tie and spark Colgate to a 13-11 victory over Binghamton in collegiate women's lacrosse action Tuesday at the Bearcat Sports Complex.

With the win, Colgate Head Coach Heather Young moved into sole possession of first place on Colgate all-time wins list as she recorded her 83rd victory with the Raiders. The win also serves as the 100th victory of Young's coaching career.

Fischer's game-winning tally was the final blow in a close affair that featured six ties and saw neither team lead by more than two goals during the contest.

With the score tied at 11-11 with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation, Fischer converted on a free-position attempt to put the Raiders in front, 12-11.

Lauren Gorajek doubled the Colgate cushion nearly three minutes later with her third goal of the contest to make it a 13-11 game with just over six minutes to play.

The Raiders kept the Bearcats from mounting a comeback attempt as they held Binghamton without a shot on its last possession to secure the victory.

Earlier in the contest, Binghamton held a 5-3 lead before Colgate rattled off three unanswered goals to spark a 5-1 spurt that gave the Raiders an 8-6 edge.

Binghamton responded to the Colgate surge, scoring three of the next four goals to tie the game at 9-9 less than a minute into the second half.

Colgate regain its lead moments later with goals from Haley O'Hanlon and Fischer, only to see Binghamton responded with consecutive tallies in a 3:30 span to tie the game and setup Fischer's heroics.
