Box Score BALTIMORE – The Colgate women's soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit by scoring two goals in the final 20 minutes to pick up a big 2-1 road win at Loyola Saturday night.
The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute before first-year
Abby Sotomayor was able to find an equalizer on a beautiful reverse header in the 72nd minute. Senior
Sophi Lederer then scored what proved to be the game-winner when she converted a penalty kick six minutes later to help lead Colgate to the 2-1 win.
Loyola jumped on the board when Jourdan Ziff banked a shot off the underneath of the crossbar just 11:49 into the game. The Raiders picked up pace and out-shot the Greyhounds 5-1 in the rest of the opening half, but weren't able to find the back of the net as Loyola carried its 1-0 lead into halftime.
Colgate peppered the Loyola defense with four shots and four corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes of the second half before Sotomayor knotted the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute. The first-year stood in the 6-yard box when she got the back of her head on a service from senior
Sarah Coy and perfectly deflected the ball into the left-hand side of the goal.
A Loyola yellow card and penalty in the 18-yard box then led to a Colgate penalty kick opportunity in the 78th minute. Lederer stepped up to convert the PK and give the Raiders a 2-1 lead. Colgate then withstood a pair of Loyola corner kicks in the final five minutes to hang on for the 2-1 win and pick up three big points in league play.
