Five Different Raiders Record a Shot on Goal, Krull Makes Six Saves

HAMILTON – The Colgate field hockey team fell in non-conference action against the Davidson Wildcats, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in their final non-conference game of the season.

Offensively, the Raiders tallied five shots on goal from five different players. Colgate's best offensive opportunity came off a penalty corner late in the first half with the Raiders trailing, 2-0. Katie Connors (Manhasset, New York) inserted a penalty corner that was stopped by Kerry Glenday (Babylon, New York). Susan Morefield (Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania) stepped into her shot and rifled the ball on goal where Davidson starting goalkeeper Bean Rodriguez made the diving save to her right with about 55 seconds left in the first half.

Early in the second half, Whitney Jones (Sudbury, Massachusetts) had two shots blocked by Wildcat defenders off back-to-back penalty corners for the Raiders.

Goalkeeper Maria Krull (Leicester, Massachusetts) tallied six saves in goal for the Raiders to up her season total to 174 with two games left on the schedule in her junior season.

Davidson's Hannah Fisher recorded her first career hat trick for the Wildcats, scoring all three goals in the 3-0 game. Coming into the contest, Fisher had just two goals this season and four goals in her career before netting the hat trick.

All three of Fisher's goals came after inserting the penalty corner for the Wildcats. Courtney Byler assisted Fisher's first goal 7:11 into the game when she fired a shot from the top of the circle off the penalty corner but Fisher came to the far post to redirect the shot. Fisher's second goal was nearly identical to her first, except Katherine English took the shot that Fisher deflected into the top corner with 13:45 left in the first half.

Fisher completed the hat trick with 23:04 left in the seocnd half after Becca Jones made a great move at the top of the circle to bring the ball back to the near side, passed the ball to Fisher who swiped the shot off the backboard.
