Junior Duo Paces Colgate in PL Home Opener

Juniors Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins Combined for 27 kills Against Army West Point Friday

HAMILTON – Juniors Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins combined for 27 kills, but Army West Point outlasted host Colgate, 3-1, in Patriot League volleyball action Friday at Cotterell Court.

Bottom Line
Army West Point 3, Colgate 1 (26-24, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22)

Won-Lost Records
- Army West Point extended its winning streak to four matches as it improved to 10-5 overall and 2-0 in League play.
- Colgate saw its three-match winning streak halted as it moved to 3-10 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

How It Happened
- Colgate controlled play early in the first set, using a pair of runs to build a 20-14 lead on Army. The Raiders would push the opening frame to set point, 24-21, when the Black Knights responded with five unanswered points to storm back and take the opening frame, 26-24.
- Army carried the momentum into the second set, tallying seven of the first nine points to jump out to a 7-2 lead. Colgate battled back to tie the frame at 18-all, setting up a sequence that saw the two sides battle back-and-forth until, with the score tied at 24-all, a Colgate attack error and a kill gave the Black Knights a second 26-24 triumph and a 2-0 lead.
- Colgate extended the match with a 25-23 victory in the third set, closing out the frame with 4-2 spurt to erase a 22-21 deficit and force a fourth frame.
- The Black Knights closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set. With the score knotted at 19-all, Army scored four straight points to take a 23-19 lead. Colgate responded with three of the next four points to pull within two, 24-22, but a spike from Vanessa Edwards gave the Black Knights the set and the match.
