Colgate Rallies to Defeat Holy Cross

Juniors Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins Combined for 33 kills to Lead Colgate to a 3-1 Victory over Holy Cross Saturday

HAMILTON – Juniors Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins combined for 33 kills to lead Colgate to a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League volleyball action Saturday at Cotterell Court.
 
Harris led all players with 19 kills and Stebbins pitched in 14 for the Raiders, who combined for a .231 hitting percentage for the match (50K-19E-134TA). Harris finished with a .320 attack clip (19-3-50) while Stebbins turned in a .414 hitting percentage (14-2-29).

Won-Lost Records
- Colgate won its fourth match in five outings as it improved to 2-1 in Patriot League play and 4-10 overall.
- Holy Cross suffered its third straight setback as it slipped to 0-2 in conference action and 3-11 on the season.
 
How It Happened
- After dropping the first set, 25-20, Colgate rallied for a 25-15 victory in the second frame. The Raiders never trailed in the set, racing out to a 10-2 lead on its way to the 10-point victory.
- Holding a 21-19 edge late in the third frame, Colgate used a kill from Harris to ignite a 4-1 spurt to close out the frame and take a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 triumph.
- The Raiders put the match away in the fourth set, taking advantage of a 6-1 run early on and an 8-2 stretch later in the frame to cruise to a 25-14 victory.
 
Key Raider Info
- Harris and Stebbins were the only two Raiders to reach double figures in kills. Senior Katie Fauntleroy pitched in nine spikes and sophomore Molly Smith added five.
- Harris also added 14 digs for her team-best eight double-double of the season.
- Smith led the Raiders with 33 assists and added 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the campaign.
- Junior Madison McAndrews tallied 16 digs to lead five Colgate players in double figures. Newcomer Katie Stansbury pitched in a season-high 15 bumps.
- Sophomore Noel Kennebeck tallied a career-high seven total blocks (2 solo, 5 block assists). Stebbins and rookie Jaelah Hutchison chipped in five block assists each.

- Colgate posted a team hitting percentage above .200 for the fifth time this season as it combined for team attack clip of .235 for the match. The Raiders hit .291 (29-8-72) over the final two frames, compared to just .161 (10-11-62) in the first two sets.
- Holy Cross finished with a team hitting percentage of .096 (43-28-157). The Crusaders turned in negative attack percentages in the second (-.075) and fourth (-.051) sets. 
- Colgate recorded 16.0 total blocks for the match, compared to just 8.0 for Holy Cross.
- The match featured a total of just nine ties and two lead changes. The first and third sets saw four ties and one lead change in each.

- Colgate Volleyball held a very special ceremony prior to the start of the match, retiring the numbers of former student-athletes Victoria Chun '91, MA '94, Judy Culhane-Faubert '00 and Autumn McKenzie-Jackson '97.
