Hutchison Leads Raiders in Colgate Classic

Newcomer Jaelah Hutchison Named to All-Tournament Team as Raiders Wrap Up Colgate Classic Schedule Saturday

HAMILTON – Colgate Volleyball closed out its first home weekend of the season Saturday with a pair of matches against Albany and Yale as part of the Colgate Classic at Cotterell Court.
 
The Raiders were defeated in both matches, suffering a 3-0 setback to the Bulldogs during the morning session before falling in a 3-0 decision to the Great Danes in the evening.
 
Newcomer Jaelah Hutchison was named to the All-Tournament Team. The San Francisco product averaged 2.22 kills and 0.78 blocks per frame during the three-match event as she garnered All-Tournament Team accolades for the second time this season.

- Trailing 6-5 early in the opening frame, Yale used a Colgate attack error to ignite an 8-0 spurt and take a 13-6 lead.
- A 4-1 Raiders spurt cut the Bulldogs advantage in half, 14-10, but Colgate would get no closer the rest of the way as Yale recorded a 25-17 victory to take a 1-0 lead.
- Holding a 14-12 edge, the Bulldogs pulled away from the Raiders midway through the second set, taking advantage of a 9-3 spurt to record a 25-19 triumph and gain a 2-0 advantage.
- Trailing 15-14 in the third stanza, Yale notched three straight points to spark an 11-5 run that lasted through the end of the set to give the Bulldogs a 25-20 victory and the match.

- Hutchison led the Raiders with seven kills while junior Katie Stebbins pitched in six spikes.
- Sophomore Lauren Sanderson dished out a team-best 11 assists.

- Trailing 16-14 midway through the second stanza, a kill by Laini Leindecker sparked the Great Danes to a 7-1 spurt and a 21-17 lead.
- Colgate temporarily halted the spurt with two of next three points to trim the
Albany margin to 22-19, but the Great Danes notched the final three points of the frame to post a 25-19 decision and take a 2-0 lead.
- The Great Danes never looked back, rattling off seven of the first nine points of the third frame on its way to a 25-13 victory in the third set and the match.

- Harris led the Raiders with 11 kills and Hutchison pitched in eight.  Harris also talled 10 digs for her team-leading fourth double-double of the season.
- Newcomer Katie Stansbury notched six spikes and sophomore Noel Kennebeck added five.
- Sophomore Molly Smith dished out 27 assists and added 11 digs to record her third double-double of the season.
- Sophomore Elena Simpson added a season-best 19 digs to lead three Colgate players in double figures in that category.

Up Next
- Colgate is back in action Sept. 18 when it opens the Bucknell Tournament with a 7:30 p.m. match against the host Bison. The contest will serve as a Patriot League match for both programs.
- The Raiders are scheduled to face Delaware State (10 a.m.) and Providence (3 p.m.) on Sept. 19 to close out tournament play.
