WEST POINT, N.Y. – Colgate softball defeated Army on Thursday afternoon to complete the series sweep and earn their fifth win in the last six games.
The Raiders took the contest 5-4 making it the first time since the 2012 season they beat the Black Knights in three regular season games. Colgate registered 3-of-4 wins that year.
Brigit Ieuter led Colgate on the day going 2-of-3 with one run and one RBI.
Mariel Schlaefer and
Gillian Murray added two hits during their four at bats and both added an RBI in the contest.
It was a joint effort from three Raider pitchers in Ieuter,
Kira Griswold and
Megan Carnase. Ieuter started the game pitching 3.1 innings allowing four hits and two runs, one of which was earned. Griswold came in for relief pitching 2.1 innings giving up four hits and two runs, while Carnase finished the game pitching 1.1 innings allowing just one hit to get the save.
The Black Knights jumped out to the early 1-0 edge after the first but Colgate answered in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Army would fight back to tie the game in the fourth inning but a big sixth inning for the Raiders handed them the 5-2 advantage. The Black Knights would spark a small rally in the bottom half of that inning but strong pitching from Carnase ultimately secured the victory for Colgate.

With the win, Colgate now shifts its win total to nine games, including five straight.
The Raiders finally get to break in Eaton Street Field on Wednesday when they host nearby rival Cornell in a doubleheader during their next outing. That twin bill is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start. Live stats and video will be available at the start of the games.
