Box Score

HAMILTON –  Three Colgate women's soccer players recorded their first goal and assist of the season as they lifted the Raiders to a 3-1 victory over Vermont here on Friday night.

Jenna Raepple, Caroline Brawner and Emily Manoogian all had a hand in each other's goal to help shift Colgate's overall record to 2-1-1.

Raepple started the scoring in the 39th minute after Manoogian played her a great pass inside the box, where she finished it to the lower right-hand corner. Brawner was up next with goal number two in the 45th minute after following up an initial shot from Reapple that struck the post. Manoogian closed out the Raider scorers with a laser of a shot off a Brawner corner kick to the upper 90 from 25-yards out.

Colgate nearly posted its third shutout in a row but a late goal from the Catamounts in the 83rd minute ended those hopes.

Golden Goals
• On the Raiders' opening goal Raepple and Manoogian utilized a give-and-go to get Colgate on the board at the 39:44 mark.
  • Raepple started the play by finding Manoogian in the center of the field. The junior continued her run where senior co-captain Manoogian was able to play her the perfect through ball. Raepple took two touches before placing the ball into the right-hand corner of the net.
• The second goal came in the 45th minutes when Brawner collected a rebound for the eventual game-winner.
  • Raepple again started an attack for Colgate by firing a hard-driven shot toward goal from 30-yards out. The shot forced Vermont's keeper, Ally Ramos, to push it up and off the crossbar. Luckily for the Raiders, Catherine Williams quickly one-touched the rebound to Brawner, who tapped it in for the 2-0 Colgate edge.
• Colgate's final goal came at the 53:48 mark following a corner kick.
  • Brawner played a short corner kick to Manoogian, who was waiting 25 yards outside the box. Manoogian felt no pressure and saw an opening on net. The senior then ripped a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net, creating a three-goal lead for the Raiders.

Straight From The Source
Head Coach Kathy Brawn on Friday's Match
• "We had a terrific week of practice and we saw those things play out tonight on the field against a good Vermont team. Our players executed things the way we wanted them too and they had a good spark about the way they were doing things.

"It took us a little while to get that spark today but once we did, we moved the ball well, maintained possession and played good soccer on both sides of the ball."

Brawn on Raepple, Brawner and Manoogian's Three-Point Performances
• "Those three players bring so much to the table. Their soccer IQ's are so high and they are very talented as athletes. They are really good at being corporative and carrying out what it is we are trying to do.

"They play so well together, it's fun to watch them. Whether they are starting or not starting it doesn't make a difference to them. We've asked our team to suspend the belief of starting being the most important thing in the world. You can see it as we bring people in that things don't change in terms of level of play. Everybody contributes and those three really epitomize that philosophy."

Brawn on Facing UMass. Lowell in Sunday's Game
"We never played them before. They had a terrific game plan against Syracuse and on a day that it was 87 degrees, even higher on the turf, they were really discipline about things. They were playing good soccer and have some good personalities on the field. We've got some ideas about what we want to do tomorrow in preparation for Sunday and we are expecting them to come out and be well prepared for us.

"We will build on the good things from today and be ready for them on Sunday."
