2014-15 Men's Basketball Roster
HAMILTON – Colgate head coach
Matt Langel and his men's basketball team have announced four newcomers for the 2014-15 season.
The Raiders welcome two true rookies, while two others transfer into the program.
Sean O'Brien and
Jordan Robertson are eligible for the upcoming season, while
Tom Rivard and
Jordan Swopshire will have to sit out a year due to NCAA-mandated transfer rules.
The incoming class is from four different states: O'Brien joins Colgate from Pennsylvania, Robertson from New Jersey, Rivard from Massachusetts and Swopshire from Missouri.
"We are excited about this group of student-athletes," Langel said. "We believe their character and talents on and off the court compliment each other as well as our returning players. Their various experiences will help this year's team and, we believe, our program well into the future.
"Their collective excitement about the opportunities that Colgate presents is a testament to their families and how they have been raised. We are anxious to get them to campus in August and welcome them and their families into our Colgate Basketball family with open arms."
2014-15 Incoming ClassSean O'Brien comes to Colgate from Lafayette Hill, Pa. He attended Penn Charter where he participated in basketball and soccer. During his senior campaign he averaged 19 points, four assists and six rebounds per game. He was a two-time All-League First Team member, while also garnering All-City and All-State Third Team honors. O'Brien served as the team captain during his junior and senior seasons and was voted the team MVP.
Tom Rivard makes the trip to Hamilton from James Madison University. Originally from Worcester, Mass., this 6-7 forward attended Worcester Academy. He averaged 9.5 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game during his senior year. Rivard's high school squad won the NEPSAC AA Championship during his senior season as well where he was also the captain. Last season with the Dukes he saw action in 15 games, playing a total of 104 minutes, while pulling down 19 boards to go along with his 10 points.
Jordan Robertson joins the Raiders from Cape May Court House, N.J. He played for Wildwood Catholic, where he served as the team captain for his junior and senior seasons. During his final campaign he averaged 18.5 points and eight rebounds per game. While there, he was named to the First Team C.A.L. squad, Atlantic City Press Player of the Year, Courier Post Player of the Year, Courier Post First Team All-South Jersey, and was honored with Al Carino Basketball Club First Team South Jersey accolade. He was also named the 2013-14 Co-MVP.
Jordan Swopshire comes to Colgate from Bradley University. Originally from O'Fallon, MO., this 6-6 forward attended Fort Zumwalt South. Prior to attending Fort Zumwalt South, Swopshire played his junior season at SportsQuest Academy (Va.), where he averaged 22 points and seven rebounds. He was also a member of the 2011-12 USA Basketball Men's Developmental National Team, which allowed him to participate in the FIBA's inaugural Invitational 3x3 Youth World Championship in Rimini, Italy. During his time at Bradley, he averaged 1.3 points per game, while making 26 appearances.
