HAMILTON – Colgate Men's Lacrosse honored 10 seniors and handed out four individual awards at the annual postseason banquet Sunday inside the Hall of Presidents.
Raiders head coach
Mike Murphy thanked the team, parents and supporters for another strong season, which saw Colgate finish 9-7 overall against a very stout schedule. The Raiders ended the regular season 24th nationally and second in the Patriot League in the NCAA's final RPI ratings.
Colgate finished fourth in the Patriot League standings after being picked fifth in the preseason, and the Raiders advanced to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for the eighth time in the last nine years. Colgate in the tournament won 10-9 over Bucknell in dramatic double-overtime fashion before losing 12-6 to No. 1-ranked Loyola in the semifinals.
Jimmy Ryan received the Danny Hagerman Alumni Award, presented annually to the senior who best demonstrates an attitude, commitment, work ethic and respect that encompasses what it means to be a member of Colgate Men's Lacrosse.
Ryan played on the defensive side of the field this year, finishing with 15 games played and five starts. He posted 17 ground balls – one shy of his career high – and forced eight turnovers.
Brandon Burke was selected Rookie of the Year by his teammates to match his Patriot League honor received late last month. Burke played all but about 20 minutes as Raiders goalkeeper, finishing with an 8.81 goals-against average that was fifth in the league and 15th nationally.
