HAMILTON –
Senior Ethan Jacobs tallied 20 points and nine rebounds for a season-best here Wednesday night on Cotterell Court.

The Raiders unfortunately fell in the game 71-70 to the visiting Sacred Heart Pioneers.

Jacobs went 6-for-13 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe for his impressive shooting night. Austin Tillotson added 15 points to close out the Raiders in double-figures.

Colgate and Sacred Heart battled and saw 18 lead changes to go along with 12 tie scores throughout the 40 minutes of play.

The Raiders would have taken a four-point edge into halftime but a jumper from Cane Broome with seven seconds left made it a one-possession game at the break.

Both teams took their turns holding the lead in the second half but 6-0 run from the Raiders with 10 minutes remaining in the game gave them their largest advantage of the night at 62-56.

Colgate remained ahead by five with three minutes left but a 10-4 run to close out the game ultimately secured the come-from-behind victory for the Pioneers. Two of those 10 points came in the final five seconds after Allen converted on an inbounds play.

The Raiders' next outing is at No. 14 Ohio State for the final game of the Buckeye Classic on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. tip.

Straight From The Source
• Colgate head coach Matt Langel: (on a frustrating 71-70 loss to Sacred Heart) "I take all of the blame. I didn't prepare our team well enough, coming off a completely different style of play at Arizona State, for the type of game we needed to be playing. We just didn't do a good job in any aspect of the game."

"We played poor defense, we didn't run good offense, we played way too much one-on-one basketball and it was just very uncharacteristic of the team that we are trying to be. And that responsibility lies on the head coach. We didn't execute late in the game, we didn't shoot well enough from the foul line and then we let them get some easy shots. It was a very disappointing game for us."
