Two Raiders Find Double-Digits at UNH

Colgate Drops Another Close Game, 63-57

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Damon Sherman-Newsome and junior Austin Tillotson posted double-figures for the 10th time this year on Sunday.

Unfortunately, the Raiders were unable to grab the victory at host New Hampshire, falling to the Wildcats 63-57.

With Sunday's outcome, Colgate has now dropped seven of its eight losses by seven points or less.

With three minutes and 20 seconds left to play Colgate held the four-point edge after Sherman-Newsome converted on a layup. UNH responded with 10 straight points, four of which came from the free throw line, to steal the win down the stretch.

Leading the Raiders in scoring was Sherman-Newsome and Tillotson, who both recorded 15 points throughout the game. Sherman-Newsome went 6-for-11 from the floor, 1-for-5 from long and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, while Tillotson finished 5-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 3-for-4 from the line.

On the boards Colgate saw Matt McMullen and Luke Roh pull down a team-high five rebounds, with Roh also chipping in a team-best four helpers in the game.

Head coach Matt Langel's squad finished shooting 47.8 percent from the floor and 31.6 percent from downtown. The Raiders also converted on seven of their nine attempts from the free throw line.

UNH shot better from long finishing 53.3 overall from behind the arc. The Wildcats also posted a 44.4 percent shooting from the floor and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe.

The Raiders have a much needed week off before they head to nearby rival Syracuse on Dec. 22 for a 7 p.m. match up with the Orange.

Straight From The Source
• Colgate head coach Matt Langel: (on his team not getting some shots to fall in the final minutes despite shooting the ball well on the night) "We got good shots, which is our purpose of running offense. I haven't watched the film yet but think in the last few minutes we had a few layups at the rim and open shots, at least one wide-open shot from the top of the key. If we can find a way to make any of those, it's a different game. We need to keep the lead and keep them playing from behind instead of giving them so many lives."

"When you don't get your shots to fall, in order to win, you have to step up and play great defense. Credit UNH for making some big plays late, but we did not execute all of our defensive principles and allowed them some opportunities that should not be there. Those little things don't show up on the stat sheet, but it's focus and attention to detail, especially at those critical junctures that we need to improve on if we are going to get to where we want to be, where our team has shown we are capable of getting."

(on how to continue to teach him team to learn from these close losses) "The message stays the same. The difference between winning and losing is very fragile. You have to always pay attention to all your details. It's the little things that at the end of the day, in a close game, come back to haunt you. A missed free throw rebound in the first half is just as significant as a missed free throw rebound late in the game. It's simply magnified in crunch time."
