SYRACUSE, N.Y. –
Colgate saw Syracuse jump out to an early lead and the Raiders weren't quite able to recover, falling 78-43 to the Orange.

It was a one-point Syracuse advantage a little less than four minutes into the game after Damon Sherman-Newsome converted from downtown. However, the Orange answered with a 16-0 run over the course of five minutes and 29 seconds to create a 17-point deficit between the teams.

That run, along with a 19-4 Syracuse edge to close out the half, ultimately sealed the victory for the Orange as they took a 43-13 lead into the break.

During that opening half, Syracuse notched its second-best first half shooting mark of the season, making 17 of its 34 attempts from the floor, while Colgate went for its worst-shooting half of the year going 5-for-24.

The Raiders then tried to cut into the Orange advantage during the second period, sparking an 11-1 run late in the game, but the deficit proved to be too much as the Raiders fell to their nearby rival.

Leading Colgate in scoring was Sherman-Newsome with 13 points. Austin Tillotson added 11 points to close out the Raider scorers in double-figures. Tillotson also chipped in a team-high four helpers in the game.

Senior Ethan Jacobs pulled down a team-best six boards to go along with his eight points, while fellow classmate Luke Roh finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists.

Colgate is back in action Sunday when the heads to Columbia for a contest with the Lions at 2 p.m. That game marks the Raiders last non-conference matchup of the year.
