HAMILTON –
The Colgate women's hockey team hosted Western University in an exhibition game on Sunday in which the Raiders and Mustangs tied 1-1.

Colgate (0-0) saw Liz Trautz tally its lone goal in the second period after Melissa Kueber and Miriam Drubel found her with the puck. Katie Case and Rachel Walsh both added five shots in the contest.

Western (0-0) notched a goal in the opening period thanks to Tara Cation's marker. Michelle Saunder and Stacey Scott were award assists on the goal. The Mustangs were received a team-high six shots by Casey Rosen.

In the beginning period it was Western who earned the game's first goal. Following a Raiders' boarding penalty, the Mustangs passed the puck along the blue line before finding an opening on net. Cation fired a shot that sailed just past the right shoulder of Colgate's goaltender Susan Allen.

The Raiders answered with a power play goal of their own in the middle frame. After back-to-back penalties on Western, Colgate was awarded a 5-on-3 opportunity. The Raiders worked the puck around the blue line before finding Kueber on the wing. She slid the puck through the crease to Drubel, whose quick shot was stopped by Western's goalie Katie Jacobs. Before Jacobs could fall on the puck Trautz finished off the rebound to knot the score at 1-1.

Throughout the third period both teams earned chances on goal. Colgate had its best opportunity of the period with 14 seconds remaining when Walsh found herself one-on-one with Jacobs. Walsh made a great move but Jacobs made an even better stop to keep the game tied, sending it into overtime.

Neither team was able to notch the go-ahead goal as the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Allen made two saves in net for Colgate in the opening period, while Brittney Brooks recorded six saves in the middle frame before Ashlynne Rando finished the game posting 11 stops. Jacobs tallied 46 saves in the game.

The Raiders held the advantage on shots 47-20.

Colgate opens up its regular season on Friday at 7 p.m. in Starr Rink, hosting two-time national champion Minneapolis for a two-game set.
