HAMILTON – Colgate remained unbeaten in league play following a 3-0 victory over newly joined Patriot League member Loyola in a women's soccer contest here Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (6-3, 2-0 PL) received goals from three different student-athletes throughout the match. Junior captain Emily Manoogian led Colgate with a goal and an assist for her first three-point game of the season. Rookie Sarah Coy notched the middle marker before reigning PL Rookie of the Year Catherine Williams knocked in the insurance goal.

"Emily looked outstanding today," head coach Kathy Brawn said of her captain's performance. "She played a really complete game. She was good on both sides of the ball, and the assist she had with the shovel pass to Catherine (Williams) was a really high-level play. It was a great run by Cat and just a good read by Emily.

"That was something we worked on this past week, those kinds of combinations. And then Emily put her personal creativity on something like that and the outcome is a really pretty goal."

Colgate got out to a quick start, possessing the ball for most of the opening five minutes. At the 6:48 mark, the Raiders tallied their first goal following a long cross by Jenna Panepinto from the back line. The ball sailed into the box, where Manoogian brought it down with her chest before volleying it into the back of the net.

In the 15th minute, the Raiders looked to extend their advantage when Manoogian teamed up with Williams. Manoogian started the play by dribbling to the top of the box, sending a through ball into Williams, who was making a run behind the defense. Loyola goalie Didi Haracic came sliding out and grabbed the ball before Williams was able to get a foot on it.

Ten minutes later, Colgate found the back of the net again thanks to PL Rookie of the Week Coy's third of the season. The play originated after Lexi Panepinto made a huge run with the ball from defense to the top of the box. Panepinto slid the ball to a running Coy, who timed her run perfectly one-touching it past Haracic and into the goal.

The Boca Raton, Fla., native has now notched goals in each of the last two games.

In the 34th minute, Williams added the insurance marker when Manoogian used her fancy footwork to get her the ball inside the 18-yard box. Manoogian, seeing an opening up the field, dribbled to the top of the box before chipping the ball over two Greyhound defenders to a running Williams. Before Haracic could make the save, Williams collected the ball and placed it into the lower right-hand corner of the net.

Loyola (1-7-2, 0-2 PL) started the second 45 minutes pressuring the Raiders' back four. With 27 minutes remaining in the game, the Greyhounds earned a free kick deep in Colgate's zone. The ball bounced around before freshman Emily Pullen cleared it away, stopping any Loyola opportunity on net.

Williams almost tallied another goal in the 69th minute when she found herself alone with the ball inside the box. She riffled a shot but Haracic came up with a brilliant stop, saving a goal.

Colgate was able to fend off any Loyola attack in the final minutes, securing the 3-0 win and moving the Raiders to 2-0 in conference play.

"It's the way we play best," Brawn added about her team holding most of the game's possession. "We could have moved the ball a little faster in the first half, but with that said we did possess it well. Loyola really turned things up in the beginning of the season half. We weren't as well prepared for that as we could have been, so that's something we will look to work on during this shortened week with a mid-week game and a game the following Saturday against two really tough opponents, Army and Navy."

Brenna Mason and Erin Cummings shared the shutout with Mason handling the bulk of the work for 75 minutes. Mason recorded one save, while Cumming notched two. Haracic came up with four saves throughout the match.

Colgate outshot the Greyhounds 13-6 and held a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Raiders are back on the pitch Wednesday for a mid-week game with the Army Black Knights at 5 p.m. at West Point. Colgate won the last meeting between these two teams, 3-2.
